The Benefits of Vertical Blinds
Vertical blinds open and close horizontally, making them the perfect blinds for patio doors, sliding doors and extra-wide windows (up to 192” wide). There are also a lot more advantages in choosing vertical blinds:
Stylish Finishes and Textures
Vertical blinds are available in a variety of fabrics and materials, making it simple to find the perfect choice for any room or style. The various finishes all promise a high-end look and feel, as well as quality craftsmanship.
Range of Colour Choices
Vertical blinds can serve different purposes in different rooms. In some rooms, they may work best as an understated addition in a neutral colour. In other rooms, like a living room, a darker shade may be best to create a contrast and add flair. Vertical blinds come in as many as 50 different shades.
Affordability
Budget is an important factor for just about everyone, so it’s an added bonus that the practicality of patio door blinds is matched by affordability. With varying options ranging from basic to luxurious, there is something to suit every style and price point. Plus, all vertical blind options have one thing in common regardless of materials or cost: quality!
Versatility
Vertical blinds are among the most versatile in terms of window treatments. They are ideal as patio door blinds, or for sliding doors and oversized windows. They glide easily and are simple to operate.
Easy to clean and maintain
Vertical blinds are easy to clean and maintain over time. Vinyl and faux wood options can easily be wiped down and luxurious fabrics can be spot treated. Because each slat is individually placed, it’s simple to remove one slat at a time to lay flat and clean.
Customizable stacking
Depending on the room or personal preference, stacking can be customized. Slats can stack to the left, right, centre, or split to both sides at once.
Light Control
Adjusting the amount of light entering the room is a breeze with both the cord or wand controllers. Slats can adjust to nearly any angle and go from blackout to light filtering and everything in between.
How They Work
A practical feature of the vertical patio door blinds is that they can be tilted open just like a horizontal blind. To let light in or out, simply turn the tilt rod/control to the open or closed position.
Vertical blinds also have the flexibility to stack in a wide range of positions. One method is the standard left or right stack, which means that the slats, or vanes, all draw open to the left side or the right side when you open your vertical door blind. Vertical blinds also offer a centre stack option, which pulls the blinds in from the outer ends of the patio door blind, stacking the slats in the center of the door or window. There is also the opposite stack option, which does the reverse – it opens the vertical door blinds from the centre, stacking an even number of slats to both sides.

VERTICAL BLINDS FAQ
What are vertical blinds? How do they work?
Vertical blinds are window treatments made of long slats that hang vertically and can be rotated using the wand to control light and privacy. Based on the draw stack chosen, you can also slide all of the slats to the left or right side for a view to the outside, as well as to provide clear access through sliding doors. Vertical blinds are ideal for patio doors or sliding glass doors.
What is the difference between vertical blinds and horizontal blinds?
Vertical blinds have slats that hang vertically and are ideal for large windows or sliding glass doors. Horizontal blinds, or venetian blinds, are best for smaller windows and have slats that run horizontally.
Are vertical blinds good for large windows, patio doors or sliding doors?
Yes, vertical blinds are ideal for large windows or sliding glass doors. Select Blinds Canada offers vertical blinds in extra-wide sizes specifically designed to cover expansive windows or patio doors.
What are vertical blinds made of?
Select Blinds Canada offers vertical blinds in various materials, including durable vinyl, faux wood and fabric, each providing different benefits in terms of light control, privacy and aesthetics.
What is the difference between vertical blinds and panel tracks?
Both vertical blinds and panel tracks are ideal for large windows or sliding glass doors, but are quite different in appearance and operation.
Vertical blinds feature long vertical slats that rotate to control light and privacy, and can also be drawn fully to one side. These blinds are typically made from vinyl/PVC, faux wood or fabric. Vertical blinds are an affordable, practical choice with a more traditional look.
Panel tracks use wide fabric panels that slide smoothly along a top-mounted track, providing a sleek and modern appearance. Panel tracks come in a wide selection of light-filtering, blackout and solar fabrics, and tend to be higher priced as compared to vertical blinds.
Do vertical blinds block out sunlight and provide privacy?
Vertical blinds can effectively block a lot of incoming light when the slats are closed. You can choose materials that provide varying levels of light blockage and privacy, including blackout fabrics.
Are vertical blinds suitable for homes with children or pets?
Yes. All of the vertical blinds and panel tracks at Select Blinds Canada are designed without cords or chains to prevent safety hazards.
How do I measure my windows for vertical blinds?
For an inside mount, measure the exact width of the inside of the window frame at the top, middle, and bottom, and use the narrowest measurement. For the height, measure the inside frame at the left, center, and right, and use the longest measurement. For outside mount, measure the desired width and height of the area you wish to cover, adding up to an extra 4” to ensure proper coverage.
