How to clean roller shades
Roller shades made from vinyl material are very easy to clean. Simply use a damp microfibre cloth to get rid of dust, dirt, and stains. If your roller shades are fabric, be sure to treat them a little more carefully. Instead, you may want to use a vacuum with a gentle attachment on the end to dust your shades. It is also recommended that you spot treat stains with a fabric-safe laundry detergent, as well.
Do not apply bleach as it will discolour the fabric. Instead, apply stain remover or detergent and gently rub in a circular motion to lift the stain out. Allow the fabric to air dry.
Cleaning tips:
- Do not use bleach on fabric shades on roller shades
- Never apply heat directly to your roller shade
- Use baby-friendly detergent to ensure it is not too abrasive for the material
FAQs
Can I use cleaning products on vinyl roller shades?
Vinyl roller shades do not absorb water or stains and respond very well to a damp cloth. There is no need to use any cleaners. If you must use a cleaner to get rid of a stain on a light material, stick to mild dish soap and water. Though vinyl is quite durable, harsh or abrasive cleaners can damage the finish of the shades.
How do I get smells out of my fabric roller shades?
Fabrics tend to absorb smells. If you want to get rid of a smell on yours, remove them from the bracket and leave them outside overnight to air out. You may also use a household scented product, as long as it does not contain alcohol or bleach, which may damage the finish.
